What is the Catskill Mountain Rail Trail (CMRT)?

A proposed scenic and recreational trail along the former Ulster and Delaware (U&D) rail corridor from Kingston along the Ashokan Reservoir to Belleayre ski center.  It will ultimately link the Walkway over the Hudson to the Catskill Park, through a rail-trail hub in Kingston.

Project objectives:

Create a beautiful and safe linear park

  • Open to the public during all four seasons
  • For walkers, bicyclists, and all who seek to achieve a healthy lifestyle
  • For recreation and as an alternative transportation route
  • Accessible to persons with disabilities and the elderly

Connect Kingston neighborhoods, via a car-free route, to key destinations within city limits and to the Catskill Park and Ashokan Reservoir

Expand tourism in Ulster County and the Hudson Valley region

Create regional linkage and economic activity in communities along:

  • the Catskill Mountain Rail Trail
  • the Hurley/ O&W Rail Trail
  • the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail
  • the Walkway over the Hudson
